Zero Waste Event Planning

Zero Waste Events are an inspiring way to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability, and set a precedent for your guests of how to collectively reduce waste and the associated environmental impacts. The key to Zero Waste Events is careful planning so that all materials used and disposed of are reusable, recyclable, "donatable" or compostable. The most successful Zero Waste Events not only reduce the collective carbon footprint of the event, but also share the post-event results with guests/participants to heighten their awareness, motivate future decision-making and thereby deepening and widening the impacts of your sustainability stewardship.
BALANCEDAPPROACH provides Zero Waste Event planning services, including:
  • Pre-event research, outreach, coordination and planning
  • Infrastructure preparation
  • In-person assistance and coordination at event
  • After-event coordination, observations, and data collection
  • Data analysis, report preparation (including landfill diversion rates, carbon footprint analysis and GHG equivalencies) and presentation
A FEW FACTS:
In the United States, an estimated 40% of food that is grown, harvested and transported to markets ends up in landfills. More than 20 pounds of food is wasted per person every month in the US, which is enough to fill the Rose Bowl – a 90,000 seat stadium – every day. Despite the apparent abundance of food, in 2016 12% of US households were food insecure.
By reducing food waste we can:
  • Save money from wasting less food
  • Reduce methane emissions from landfills and other pollution
  • Conserve energy, water and other resources
  • Support communities by donating
BALANCEDAPPROACH also offers:
  • Environmental Compliance Assistance
  • Planning & Reporting
  • Program Development & Management
  • Stakeholder Education
