Zero Waste Event Planning

Zero Waste Events are an inspiring way to demonstrate your commitment to sustainability, and set a precedent for your participants of how to collectively reduce waste and the associated environmental impacts. The key to Zero Waste Events is careful planning so that at least 90% of all materials used and disposed of are reusable, recyclable, "donatable" or compostable. The most successful Zero Waste Events not only reduce the collective carbon footprint of the event but also share the post-event results with your participants to heighten their awareness, motivate future decision-making, and thereby deepen and widen the impacts of your sustainability stewardship.
BALANCEDAPPROACH's Zero Waste Event Services include:
  • Pre-event planning & coordination
  • On-site assistance and infrastructure prep
  • Event observation and data collection
  • Analysis, report preparation (including diversion rates, carbon footprint and GHG equivalencies) and presentation
A FEW UNFUN FACTS ABOUT FOOD WASTE:
In the US, an estimated 40% of food grown, harvested and transported to markets ends up in landfills, accounting for over 14% of total US GHG emissions. More than 20 pounds of food is wasted per person every month in the US, which is enough to fill the Rose Bowl – a 90,000 seat stadium – every day. Despite the apparent abundance of food, in 2023 13.5% of US households were food insecure.

By reducing food waste, we can:
  • Save money from wasting less food
  • Reduce methane emissions from landfills
  • Conserve energy, water and other resources
  • Support communities by donating
